Joel may still answer new questions
Hi everyone! I'm Joel Cox.
I'm a digital product design leader with over a decade of professional experience. I have a background in UX and Visual Design (web & mobile, consumer & enterprise). In the past, I have helped deliver award winning applications for global brands such as Marvel and Pixar.
I'm also the creator of the Volta Word Processor. Give it a go @ voltawriter.com.
Hi, hey, hello! - I'm a Bay Area native and a product designer at Atlassian in San Francisco. I design experiences on Bitbucket.org to help developers make cool stuff with code.
Before Atlassian, I consulted for several start-ups doing responsive web and native mobile design, as a part of a program that helped me level up my skills. Prior to that, I was studying human-centered design at UC Berkeley.
Relative to others that have done Q&A sessions, I'm earlier on in my career - so I'm happy to answer any questions about breaking into the industry, design education, the recruiting process, portfolios, etc. Also happy to talk about my current experiences working at a larger tech company like Atlassian...and anything else, really.
Hi everyone! I'm Trevor and I've been designing professionally for 4+ years. Here's a little bit about me:
Started off as a print designer: brochures, flyers, posters for charities and small businesses. Moved into spatial design and art direction when I graduated, was then hired as a consultant by LEGO to work with the .com redesign team—this was my first step into web design and the first time I'd encountered the UX process. Soon after that finished, I began working at 100 Shapes. In the last 3 years I have, in a nutshell, created brand identities, style + component guides and interfaces for enterprise and non-profit as well as smaller web products and apps. We're only until recently, diving into the world of VR/AR...MR—the uses in the industries we currently work with. There's a massive use-case for the technology and we're aiming to help enterprise rethink their current workspace by designing some high-level interaction guidelines and potential uses.
Moderator note: We are very excited to have Trevor do this for us - you should ask him about UI design, UX process, Graphi...
Hi everyone! I'm Sebastien Gabriel — I am a UI designer at Google, and I work on the Chrome, Chrome OS and Android products.
Some of the projects I have worked on at Google include redesigning Chrome desktop and Chrome OS System menu amongst among things. You can learn more about both in detail at my personal website. I also like writing about design, and have contributed some of my photography work to Unsplash.
Ask me anything!
Moderator note: We'd like to thank Sebsatien for letting us import his Sketch tutorial to the UI Design List.
As somebody that did a PM school to then become a visual designer, I'm not the best to give design school recommendations so take this with a grain of salt.
During my time at this school, I disliked project ma...

Great question! It’s actually one that I’ve discussed recently with a few colleagues. Choosing a school is a big decision but, what’s nice in our industry is that a degree isn’t required. (we’...
